Typically, we ask a “sign” for things we are unsure of. Example: A girl wanted to decide if she’s going to answer her suitor or not, she will then ask for a sign; “If he will give me red roses, I will answer him eventually. Please give me a sign if he’s truly the one”.
We consider it as a sign when we notice something that seems to be sending us a message or a meaning and we somehow use these signs to decide. There are good and bad signs that we can consider and there are a lot of reasons why we often ask God for signs, one thing is to help us on several decisions we had to make, second is to ask advice for spiritual growth and lastly to just simply know what is God’s will for us.
There is nothing bad about asking and receiving signs though we shouldn’t always rely on it, remember that God gave us will to decide between things, signs are only there as a guide.
In the bible, there are many events that were considered as a sign of God, some appear in dreams and some appears on a normal day as when God tried to speak with Moses in a form of burning bush, more often these events are called miracles but the gospel writer chose to use the term “signs”. These events all happened unexpectedly. Signs serve as a reminder that God is watching us, he knows us very well, and as he sends his signs to us he is also giving us hope and anticipation of something good about to come.
Kabayan, we should always trust and acknowledge him in every aspect of our life; he is always there to guide us.
