Ilokana Women’s Organization’s The Mother-like Caress and Assistance
Every time we are hurt when we were once a fragile child, our caring mother rushes in to help and console us. Similarly, as we encountered the COVID-19 health crisis, it was not only the men who stepped forward to help our kabayans in Kuwait. Like a loving mother who provides warmth and comfort to her child, the Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) has continuously demonstrated its generosity and charity to all, especially during these challenging times.
The Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) has been at the forefront of humanitarian efforts, ensuring that fellow Filipinos in Kuwait receive the assistance they need. One of their most notable contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic was the distribution of food packages to struggling Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). These food packages became a beacon of hope for many, ensuring that families had meals on their tables despite the financial hardships caused by the crisis. The organization tirelessly worked to extend its reach to as many Filipinos as possible, proving its dedication to its advocacy of service and kindness.
Initially, the Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) was established in 2015 by the dedicated Tres Marias: Farida Al-Halimi, Trinidad Mariam Alzankawi, and Rosita Ortiz Al Sinan. Believing in the values of sincerity and charity, they formed the group to serve as a guiding light to those struggling with grief and sorrow. Even before the COVID-19 health crisis, the Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) had been actively involved in humanitarian causes, working hand in hand with the Filipino community in Kuwait to provide support and assistance to those in need.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) intensified its efforts, recognizing the growing needs of the Filipino community. The economic impact of the pandemic left many OFWs unemployed, struggling to afford basic necessities. In response, IWOK organized several relief drives, distributing thousands of food packages to those affected. These food packages included rice, canned goods, noodles, and other essential items to help ease the burdens of struggling Filipino workers.
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the strength and resilience of the Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK). Despite the challenges of logistical constraints and movement restrictions, the organization remained steadfast in its mission. Volunteers worked tirelessly, packing and delivering food packages to different areas in Kuwait, ensuring that help reached those who needed it the most. Their unwavering dedication was a testament to their commitment to humanitarian service.
Beyond the COVID-19 crisis, the Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) continues to provide assistance through various initiatives. The distribution of food packages remains one of their core programs, ensuring that Filipino workers in distress receive immediate help. Their generosity extends beyond material aid, as they also offer emotional and moral support to kabayans experiencing hardships.
The spirit of bayanihan is alive in the efforts of the Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK). Their selfless dedication to providing food packages, financial assistance, and emotional support exemplifies the true essence of community service. The organization has proven that no matter how difficult the situation may be, unity and compassion can make a significant impact.
As the world recovers from the effects of COVID-19, the Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) remains committed to its mission. Their continuous efforts in distributing food packages, extending a helping hand, and fostering unity among Filipinos in Kuwait demonstrate their unwavering commitment to service. The COVID-19 pandemic may have posed significant challenges, but the kindness and generosity of IWOK have left a lasting legacy of hope, compassion, and resilience within the Filipino community abroad.
Through their acts of service, the Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) has not only provided essential food packages but also uplifted the spirits of countless Filipinos. Their dedication to humanitarian efforts serves as an inspiration to many, proving that even in the darkest times, kindness and unity can light the way forward.

The outbreak of the virus caused many working Filipino parents, especially those hard-working mothers, to lose their jobs. Due to the “No Work, No Pay” situation, they struggled profoundly to provide their children with their essential needs. The IWOK community sympathized with the critical conditions of our fellow Kabayans.
As a group committed to Samaritan works, the organization took its step to provide the needs of the struggling Filipino workers. In their charitable works, they prioritized distributing milk supplies and essential items for the children in needy families. It also includes diapers and nappies for the infants. They did out well in contributing to the healthy growth of the children with their families.
