In times of crisis, the character of Kabayanihan glows within each one of us. While many of the Overseas Filipino Workers worldwide strived in the COVID-19 pandemic, different organizations and groups contributed their respective humanitarian efforts. Being one of the governmental establishments assigned to look after the Overseas Filipinos abroad, the offices of the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office -Overseas Worker Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) coordinated to supply the needs of our fellow Kabayans.
As the Philippine governmental sectors in Kuwait, both offices carried out their responsibility of responding to the necessities of our kabayans. However, in performing their primary duty, other organizations came to help in caring and supporting the OFWs, especially the ones affected by the COVID-19 disease.
The following private companies and organizations include Grand Hyper Kuwait, Kabayan Hypermarket, Association of Filipino Organization in Kuwait (ASFOK). It also includes other generous donors composed of different Filipino individuals from various Filipino organizations, and Kuwait and foreign individuals that donated. The following food and financial donations were prepared and repacked by separate organizations for fair and proper distributions.
Different Filipino communities coordinated in unison as they contributed their charitable works. Our beloved generous Kabayan and volunteers did their best in providing relief amidst this COVID-19 crisis. Many of our Filipino volunteers battled the challenges of reaching out to other fellows. They have proven their dedication to public service and assistance to the Filipino community in Kuwait. The following photos below showcased their charitable acts in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among all these food distributions, OWWA Welfare Office Llewelyn Pereze was amazed at the significant commitment of the sponsors and volunteers. She said, “I have so much respect to these volunteers, from our women in shelter who never complained about packing relief goods for hours, to our Filipino organization leaders and members who never stopped reaching out to our kababayan. We pray for their safety as they do their tasks.” Through these events, we came to realized that the unison and support in the community are crucial in providing safety and a better future for all.
