All countries continue to keep up with battle against COVID-19 disease. In Kuwait, the new number of cases increase suddenly as 641 new cases are reported in the last 24 hours with 3 new deaths and 85 successful recoveries. It brings to a total of 7,208 cases of infection in the country at May 08, 2020 as reported by the Kuwait Ministry of Health. Among the total cases, 207 of them were in Farwaniya, 147 in Hawally, 122 in Ahmadi, 109 in Capital and 66 in Al-Jahra. There are 150 Kuwaiti citizens, 122 Egyptians, 44 Pakistanis and 48 Bangladeshis.
Despite the small number of new cases yesterday, the sudden increase of new cases this Friday have alerted the authorities. Consequently, Kuwaiti government has announced a 21-days ban or curfew within the country in hopes to stop the spread of COVID-19 virus. The Government Spokesperson Tariq Al-Muzaram said that the Cabinet has decided to implement the comprehensive ban in the country from Sunday of May 10, 2020 at 4:00 pm until May 30, 2020. It will be implemented with the guidance and direction of the health authorities. Further details will also be announced during the coming press conference.
The Egyptian ENT specialist, Dr. Tariq Hussein Mukhaimer died as he puts his life on the line to combat this pandemic. Upon confirming that he was positive with the disease, he was transferred immediately into the ward for days before being transferred to the ICU. This dedicated frontliner has already been working in the country for more than 20 years. Furthermore, the Minister of Health, Dr. Basel Al-Sabah extends his heartfelt condolences to him and his family.
In the Philippines, there are 120 new COVID-19 cases for May 08, 2020 with 11 new deaths and 116 recoveries. This is great news for us Filipino as we start to see the flattening of the epidemic curve in our country. In the total tally, there are 10,463 cases with 696 confirmed deaths and 1,734 recoveries.
Despite the decline of new cases this Friday, the Department of Health said that lifting up the enhanced community quarantine in high-risk areas at May 15 is too early. According to Health Secretary Franciso Duque III, “It is very difficult to make any predictions as of now because we still have nine days.” He further hopes that no local surges will happen in this coming days. However, he assures that the data analytics groups will work closely with the Interagency Task Force in making decisions whether to put the ECQ at ease or not.
This Friday marks the 47th day of the curfew and the 15th day of the Ramadan. Kuwait has a total of 7,208 cases while Philippines have 10,463 cases. The frontliners from both countries continue to serve their respective community in hopes of stopping this crisis. As we also continue to stay home during this lockdown period, we are not putting their sacrifices in vain.
