The Social Security System (SSS) has increased its use of electronic disbursement platforms to distribute benefits to its members-beneficiaries.
As per the SSS, about P168.55 billion in social security and workers’ compensation benefits is disbursed via banks, e-wallets, and remittance transfer companies/cash payout outlets (RTCs/CPOs) from January to November 2020.
From January to November 2020, the number of benefit checks disbursed fell by 39.7% to 264,208, compared to 437,947 in the same timeframe in 2019.
Although SSS moves to these modern disbursement systems, certain benefits, such as pensions given to a confined member or claimant in a facility such as a penitentiary/correctional/rehabilitation, will continue to be paid in the traditional manner.
“With the social distancing and health protocols issued to stem the spread of COVID-19, the importance of digital technologies has been redefined. We appreciate our covered employers, and members, pensioners, and their beneficiaries’ who supported our ongoing digital transformation. We stay committed to continuously look for ways to bring our services closer to you,” Ignacio concluded.
