In line with the response of the Kuwait Government to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has launched an online registration service for COVID-19 vaccination in the country. This, to help the residents save time and ensure their safety against the threat of coronavirus.

In a statement, health minister Al-Sabah shared that anyone who will get vaccinated will receive a digital certificate sent to their phones with the mention of the vaccine injected, its date, and a passport number in case they would need it for travel purposes.

COVID-19 Update in Kuwait

After a week of relatively stable COVID-19 conditions in Kuwait, the number of patients admitted to intensive care in the country has risen dramatically. There’s cause for concern, as the number of ICU patients has increased from 159 to 202 in the last week. Following a peak on May 10, when 210 patients were admitted to the ICU, the number of patients began to decline until about a month ago, when hospitals began reporting an increase. This, despite the authorities’ diligent implementation of partial curfew and strict adherence to Covid 19 protocol and the Kuwait Government’s intensified vaccination efforts, further speeding up the procurement of doses to vaccinate the entire eligible population.
On Sunday, June 20, the fourth batch of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in Kuwait from the Russian manufacturer, as reported by local media. Health officials are yet to disclose the number of doses included in the shipment. The latest batch arrived two weeks after Kuwait got the documentation needed to authenticate the third batch, which contained roughly 388,000 doses, and arrived on May 10 but was awaiting clearance from the Ministry of Health to determine the shipment’s safety.
More than 180,000 citizens and residents have received the second shot of the Oxford vaccine since the third batch was approved for use. Moreover, the Ministry of Health began distributing the first dose of the Oxford vaccine to registered domestic workers, including Filipino OFWs, on Saturday.

New groups eligible for vaccination

As the Ministry of Health intensifies its vaccination efforts, all pregnant and breastfeeding women are encouraged to register for the vaccine on the Ministry’s website.

The Ministry of Health stated on Tuesday that the vaccine committee had approved immunizing youngsters aged 12 to 15. On Sunday, the Ministry announced that registration for those who wish to receive the vaccine has started. This comes as Kuwait plans to restore face-to-face classes in September.
