The battle against this pandemic carries on as all the people hope to end this crisis. This Saturday of May 09, 2020, the Ministry of Health in Kuwait has reported another 415 COVID-19 new cases with 2 new deaths and 156 recovered cases. It brings to a total of 7,623 cases with 49 deaths and 2,622 recoveries. Within these cases, there are 86 Kuwaiti citizens, 89 Indians, 92 Egyptians and 51 Bangladeshis. During their random tests, there are 172 in Farwaniya, 108 in Hawally, 60 in Capital, 48 in Ahmadi and 27 in Jahra. There is a decline of new cases compared to yesterday.
In regards to the comprehensive ban, a list of guidelines are released from the Cabinet. Sectors excluded from the total ban are the security and health authorities, the vital services sectors and private sector companies that coordinate to these vital services. Supermarkets will still operate in order to serve the community. However, everyone can only shop once per week.
Walking exercise at residential areas is allowed within 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Any home delivery services are suspended except food stores, cooperative societies and pharmacies. It is also mandatory to wear masks at all times when shopping or going to public places. With the implementation of the total lockdown, further spread of the virus is prevented.
In addition, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah reaches out to the people of Kuwait to cooperate and support the efforts of the government in fighting this pandemic. His Highness the Amir stresses the significance of being united in the upcoming lockdown. Marking the last ten days of Ramadan, he asks the community to ponder the lessons learned in this current crisis. He also added that despite the various challenges that the country is facing, this is the time to use the remaining resources wisely and effectively.
The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait has announced the suspension of consular and Assistance to Nationals within the period of May 11, 2020 to May 30, 2020. This is in accordance to the declaration of a total lockdown by the government of Kuwait. However, the Embassy and its agencies will still continue to provide services to the Filipino in Kuwait. Furthermore, the Filipinos in Kuwait are advised to stay at home and remain calm during this time.
In the Philippines, there are 147 new COVID-19 cases for May 09, 2020 with 8 new deaths and 116 recoveries. It brings to a total of 10,610 cases with 704 confirmed deaths and 108 new recoveries. There is a slight increase compared to the number of new cases yesterday.
On the other hand, clinical trials are currently done in the country with the drug Remdesivir. It has already been authorized in Japan and United States. Furthermore, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that Remdesivir is one of the investigational drugs included in the WHO Solidarity Trial, in which our country is participating in. According to the Department of Health, 500 COVID-19 Filipino patients will be a part of this international solidarity trial. This is a great step in discovering the cure for this virus.
This Saturday marks the 48th day of the curfew and the 16th day of the Ramadan. Kuwait has a total of 7,623 cases while Philippines has 10,610 cases. With the implementation of lockdown and clinical trials of the drugs, we are now a step closer to the discovery of its cure.
