KUWAIT CITY, April 13, Saturday, Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) for Filipinos in Kuwait commenced at the Philippine Embassy in Faiha. The OAV which will be done for one month until May 13, the actual election day in the Philippines, allows Filipinos in Kuwait and different countries where a great concentration of Filipinos reside, to cast votes for 12 senators and one party-list.
Key officials of the Philippine Commission on Elections came to Kuwait earlier last month to conduct OAV training for the embassy staff who will oversee the OAV here in Kuwait. An orientation for the Filipino community leaders on the automated election system was also held to help familiarize the Filipinos with the new voting system. Starting April 13th, the Philippine Embassy is open Saturday to Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm and on Fridays from 11 am to 7 pm to accommodate more voters especially those working as house staff. On May 13, the last day, it will be from 8 am to 2 pm.
“As an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and blogger, I think that the OAV is a great chance for Filipinos living overseas to choose upright and competent leaders so we must all vote wisely. Our voice in this election is also of much importance as the votes to be cast on May 13th by our fellow kabayans in the Philippines.”
