Kuwait: My Trusted Page of References for COVID-19 Diaries

Writing my Quarantine Diaries would not have been possible without the help of my trusted Facebook pages and various online platforms that provided accurate, timely, and verified news each day. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and Kuwait was placed under strict quarantine measures, it was a challenging time for everyone, especially for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) like myself. The isolation, uncertainty, and fear that we all felt were amplified by the overwhelming nature of the global crisis. However, with the support of online platforms and social media channels, I was able to share information that helped my fellow OFWs navigate the situation more effectively.

As an OFW, staying informed during such a tumultuous time was crucial, not only for our safety but also for the well-being of our families back home. Information was power, and it was important to have access to reliable sources. While social media can often be a breeding ground for misinformation, I found certain Facebook pages and websites that offered real-time updates, news, and insights that I could trust. This allowed me to pass on accurate and useful information to those who needed it most.

Among the most important resources I relied on was the Facebook page of Ayman Mat, which has gained a reputation for delivering up-to-date and factual information about the situation in Kuwait. Ayman Mat’s page quickly became a vital tool for all OFWs, offering daily updates on COVID-19 protocols, government measures, and community initiatives. It was a lifeline for those of us who needed reliable information but didn’t always know where to turn. From quarantine requirements to details on testing, medical support, and even food distribution, the page became an essential platform for navigating life in a foreign country during a global pandemic.

Another significant resource that helped me greatly in writing the Quarantine Diaries was the Kuwait Times, one of the country’s top English-language newspapers. The Kuwait Times provided in-depth reports on the evolving situation, as well as government statements, healthcare updates, and statistics that kept readers well-informed. I regularly used the content from the Kuwait Times to ensure that my diaries reflected the most accurate picture of what was happening on the ground. As the situation changed day by day, the Kuwait Times provided a consistent and reliable source of news that kept me and many others informed.

In addition to the Kuwait Times, the Arab Times played a similarly important role in my research and writing. Known for its wide coverage of local and international news, the Arab Times offered unique insights into the challenges faced by the country during the pandemic, including the impact on foreign workers and the local economy. Articles covering the response of the Kuwaiti government, healthcare efforts, and social initiatives were particularly valuable. By utilizing both the Kuwait Times and Arab Times, I was able to provide a comprehensive understanding of the situation and share stories that reflected both the hardships and the resilience of OFWs and the people of Kuwait.

The importance of reliable news sources cannot be overstated. During the pandemic, information was constantly changing, and the fear of misinformation or fake news was real. That’s why I am so thankful for the online platforms and news pages that prioritized accuracy, integrity, and the dissemination of trustworthy updates. Without these resources, it would have been much more difficult to craft a narrative that was not only true but also reflective of the experiences of fellow OFWs.

Through these platforms, I was able to gather crucial information and share it with my fellow Filipinos in Kuwait. Many of them, like me, were far from home and faced the added stress of being in an unfamiliar country during a global health crisis. The online platforms I relied on were not just news sources—they became a community of support, helping us stay informed, connected, and safe during a time of uncertainty.

In conclusion, while writing the Quarantine Diaries was a deeply personal project, it was made possible because of the collective effort of these online platforms. They were instrumental in providing the facts and updates that allowed me to share vital information with those who needed it most. I am incredibly thankful for pages like Ayman Mat, as well as the trusted news outlets like the Kuwait Times and Arab Times, whose work helped me ensure that the stories and updates I shared were not only relevant but also grounded in truth. Without them, the success of the Quarantine Diaries would have been unimaginable.
