The ASEAN Social Security Association (ASSA) awarded PhilHealth the Continual Improvement Recognition Award for its contributions in COVID-19 as catalysts for advancing the payment system toward effective implementation of UHC.

Early last year, the state’s health insurer began offering benefits packages to safeguard members from the high prices of testing and treatment for the fatal virus. SARS-CoV-2 testing, group isolation, benefits packages for those with moderate or no symptoms, and inpatient treatment, depending on the severity of the patient’s pneumonia, are among these packages.

On behalf of PhilHealth, Atty. Dante A. Gieran, President and CEO, accepted the award. “We would like to sincerely thank the ASSA Board for recognizing our COVID-19 response in support of the Government’s thrust to curb the pandemic. This award is a testament to the Government’s genuine concern for those who contracted the disease, as well as to the dedicated health workers who have been with us all along with this flight.” Gieran said as he received the award.

PhilHealth’s initiatives included the introduction of benefit packages designed to provide financial protection against the high costs of COVID-19 testing and treatment. These packages covered various services, including SARS-CoV-2 testing, group isolation, and inpatient care, depending on the severity of the patient’s condition. Atty. Dante A. Gierran, PhilHealth’s President and CEO, expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting those affected by the pandemic and acknowledging the dedication of health workers.Philippines Graphic
