MAKULAY was founded in May 2013 by its founder, passionate artist Romano O. The word Makulay, meaning colorful in Filipino, embodies the organization’s mission to add color and diversity to the members’ lives through art.

“Layag,” which means “sail,” symbolizes freedom and travel. For MAKULAY, it represents a commitment to travel through or navigate its members’ emotional and mental landscape through creativity. MAKULAY utilizes the power of art to help OFWs travel between cultures, preserving Filipino culture while enjoying a greater appreciation of Kuwaiti culture.
