Piyestang Pinoy 2024 in Kuwait

On June 14, 2024, the Filipino community in Kuwait came together to celebrate the 126th Philippine Independence Day at the Boulevard Ballroom in Salmiya. The event, aptly named Piyestang Pinoy 2024, was a vibrant showcase of Filipino culture, heritage, and pride, featuring an array of displays and samples of Philippine products, as well as captivating performances by various Filipino community groups.

Opening Ceremony: Flag Bearing and National Anthem

The Piestang Pinoy 2024 commenced with a solemn and patriotic flag-bearing ceremony. The atmosphere was charged with pride as the Philippine flag was raised, followed by the singing of the Philippine national anthem, “Lupang Hinirang.” This moment set the tone for a day filled with cultural pride and community spirit, marking the start of a memorable celebration.  

Exhibits and Displays: Showcasing Philippine Products

Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to explore various exhibits showcasing Philippine products. From delectable Filipino delicacies to intricate handicrafts, the displays offered a taste of home for many expatriates. These exhibits not only highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines but also provided a platform for Filipino entrepreneurs in Kuwait to promote their goods.  

Performances and Competitions: A Showcase of Talent

One of the highlights of Piyestang Pinoy 2024 was the series of performances that captivated the audience with their energy and creativity. One of the main highlights of the event was Kuwait OFW, Jose Roy Lagunda’s rendition of “Ang pangarap ko’y bansang mapayapa.” The event also featured colorful costumes and traditional dances, embodying the spirit of Filipino culture. The dance performances were not just for entertainment; they were also a competition, with groups vying for the title of best performer.

1st Runner-Up: Ati-Atihan by ASFOK 2nd Runner-Up: Sagayan by MEK Grand Winner: Masskara Dance by ZpavannoQ8

The captivating Masskara Dance presented by ZpavannoQ8 featured vibrant masks and dynamic choreography, earning it the top spot. Additionally, the impressive performances of Ati-Atihan by ASFOK and Sagayan by MEK showcased the diverse and rich traditions of Filipino dance.  

Special Guests: Cong. Ron Salo and Philippine Embassy Officials

Cong. Ron Salo, a member of the House of Representatives Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, graced Piyestang Pinoy 2024 during his “Trip to the Middle East,” adding to the occasion’s significance. Cong. Salo’s attendance underscored the importance of the Filipino community in Kuwait and the strong ties between the Philippines and its overseas workers. Philippine Embassy officials were also present, further highlighting the support and recognition for the expatriate community.
