Rep. Ron Salo’s Remarkable Trip to Kuwait

  Representative Ron Salo from the Kabayan Partylist and Bishop Paul Hernandez visited Kuwait from June 13 to June 15, 2024, to meet with the Filipino community and discuss their issues during their Trip to Middle East. This visit was part of a larger tour that included stops in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar. The goal was to strengthen ties with our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and address their concerns. Salo’s visit to Kuwait as a representative of the Filipino government demonstrated his dedication to the well-being of our fellow Filipinos living abroad.  

Warm Reception in Kuwait

  At the Town Hall event in Surra, the Filipino community gave a warm reception to Rep. Ron Salo. The Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait, His Excellency Jose ‘Pepe’ Cabrera, and Labor Attaché Atty. Manuel Dimduringaano also graced the meeting. The gathering provided an opportunity for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to express their concerns and for Salo to affirm the government’s support. The event underscored the strong ties between the Philippines and its overseas citizens, emphasizing the significance of such gatherings in promoting solidarity and addressing community issues.  

Addressing the Aftermath of the Mangaf Fire Tragedy

During his visit to Kuwait, Ron Salo found one of the most moving moments to be when he went to the site of the recent tragic fire that resulted in the loss of three OFWs’ lives and left two others critically injured. On June 13, Salo met with Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and concurrent Minister of Defense and Interior, His Excellency Fahad Yousuf Saud Al-Sabah. During their discussion, His Excellency pledged to give $15,000 to each of the families of the deceased OFWs, demonstrating Kuwait’s commitment to supporting the Filipino community. Salo expressed his gratitude to His Excellency for this kind gesture, emphasizing the significance of global solidarity during crises. Rep. Salo recognized this act as clear evidence of Kuwait’s genuine concern for our kababayans. His sincere condolences to the victims’ families and his gratitude for the prompt response of the Philippine Embassy officials further reinforced the importance of this diplomatic relationship.  

Celebrating Philippine Independence Day

Rep. Ron Salo’s visit coincided with the 126th Philippine Independence Day celebrations in Kuwait. During this event, he inspired the Filipino community by acknowledging their remarkable contributions to the Philippines. The celebration was not just a moment of national pride but also a reminder of the enduring spirit and resilience of Filipinos abroad. Salo’s presence and his words of encouragement were a source of strength for many, reaffirming their vital role in the nation’s progress.  

Compassionate Visit to Mangaf Fire Survivors

  Bishop Paul Hernandez accompanied Rep. Salo on this journey and offered his prayers and support to the survivors of the tragic fire. On June 14, Hernandez met with the survivors at the casualty hospital, providing spiritual solace and hope. His presence highlighted the moral and emotional backing that the Filipino community offers to each other, particularly in challenging times. Hernandez’s compassionate outreach complemented Salo’s diplomatic initiatives, creating a comprehensive approach to assisting the OFWs in Kuwait.

Rep. Salo’s visit to Kuwait marked a significant achievement in strengthening the ties between the Philippines and its overseas workers.
