Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, the lady from Cagayan de Oro City already made the Philippines proud when she was seen on international TV at the Miss Universe 2015 Pageant on December 20, 2015, smilingly accepting the bouquet of flowers as First Runner Up..after pageant’s host, Mr. Steve Harvey has announced that Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, is Miss Universe 2015.
But after only few brief moments, the same host, Mr. Harvey walked on stage coming near Miss Colombia saying that he has made a mistake in announcing the winner; he then announced that Miss Philippines is the new Miss Universe 2015.
It was a confusing moment for everyone, even Miss Philippines was stunned! I was shocked too! But as a Filipino, I embraced the winning moment not only of Miss Pia, but of the Philippines and every Filipino for that matter.
Seeing some viral videos showing negative reactions on Miss Philippines’ winning the title, furious, dismayed, disheartened people who support Miss Colombia, some contestants misbehaving and probably not civil to Miss Philippines, as an expat I do not know exactly how to react.
I feel for Miss Colombia because I am a woman too. I know this will be a blessing in disguise for her and it will open many, many doors for her. I am elated for Miss Philippines because she is my kababayan and she is now the third Filipina to win the Miss Universe crown!
But despite and in spite of the controversy, I choose to share in Miss Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach‘s winning moment..I choose to be happy for my country, the Philippines 🙂
