Renewal Process and Steps to Take for NBI Clearance in 2023
How can I renew an NBI Clearance that has expired? You have two choices.
The first is the Quick Renewal option, which is faster but more expensive. The second option is the Regular Renewal method, which is less costly but needs your appearance at the issuing NBI office.
📌 NBI Clearance Quick Renewal Service
Inquiring, “Can I get an NBI clearance without making an appearance?” Yes, you can, thanks to the simple Quick Renewal service. From filling out documents to paying the cost, everything is done online and in one sitting. All you have to do now is wait for your new clearance to come to your door. However, remember that the Quick Renewal service is only available to candidates whose clearances were issued after October 16, 2016.
Here’s how to renew your NBI Clearance online in 2023:
1. Navigate to the webpage for NBI Clearance Online Registration and Application Services.
2. A yellow box will appear in the upper right corner of the homepage. Within that box, click the Click Here button.
3. You will see a pop-up form. Please provide your former NBI number, cellphone number, full name, and birthdate.
4. To proceed to the following stage, click Verify.
5. An NBI Clearance delivery form will be displayed. Please provide your mailing address.
6. To pay the renewal fee, click Proceed to Payment. Over-the-counter banking, online banking, mobile wallet, ECPay, Bayad Center, and MultiPay are all options for payment.
7. Select a delivery method. You can select door-to-door delivery, personal pick-up, or delivery via a courier service such as Lalamove or Grab. If you choose courier pick-up, you will be charged the courier’s service cost.
8. Pay the delivery service fee on the next page.
9. Watch for an SMS notification. This mail acknowledges your application and contains your reference number.
10. Wait for your renewed NBI Clearance to be released.
If you do not receive a hit, your renewal clearance will be issued in three to seven business days if you live in Metro Manila or Luzon. If you live in Visayas or Mindanao, however, you will receive the clearance within seven to ten working days.
📌 Regular NBI Renewal Process
If your money is restricted, this conventional rejuvenation approach is the preferable choice. Your clearance certificate may also be released sooner, possibly on the same day (depending on the NBI renewal center you visit and whether or not you have a hit).
What you need to do for your NBI renewal appointment is as follows:
Step 1: Online Account Registration
You can skip this step if you already have an online NBI Clearance account. To schedule an appointment, go to clearance.nbi.gov.ph and sign in with your email address and password (in the upper-right corner of the screen). If you have lost your previous NBI Clearance or password, please create a new account. Signing up for a new online account also allows you to rectify or update any information on your previous clearance.
Here is how to open an NBI Clearance account online:
1. Navigate to the NBI Clearance Online Services website.

8. The NBI will send you a one-time password (OTP). Please enter it in the dialog box that appears. Then click the Submit button.
9. To log in to your online account, enter your email address and password in the upper right corner of the website. Sign in by clicking the Sign In button.
10. On the Application page, review or modify your information. Then, at the bottom of the page, click the Save Information option.
11. In the upper right corner of the page, click the Apply for Clearance tab.
12. Enter the type of valid ID you’ll present for your NBI clearance application in the Confirmation box.
13. Press the I Agree button. You will then be routed to the appointment page.
Step 2: Make an appointment for your NBI renewal online.
Make an appointment by doing the following:
1. Select the nearest NBI branch from the drop-down option.
2. Select your preferred renewal date and time (AM or PM) from the calendar. Dates with blue boxes indicate that there are still open slots for applicants.
Step 3: Pay for Your NBI Clearance
The payment box is located just adjacent to the appointment section. Pay for renewal using the instructions below:
1. Select your desired payment method.
2. After you’ve chosen a payment option, a dialog box with a reminder will display. Proceed by clicking the button.
3. Write down the payment reference number. It will be required when you pay for your NBI renewal.
4. Use your e-wallet or online banking account to pay your renewal charge. If you choose an over-the-counter alternative, simply go to a branch of the specified payment channel.
6. Click Confirm Payment if you’ve already paid to print your application form.
Step 4: Let Your Application Be Processed
1. Attend your scheduled appointment at the NBI Clearance Center. Bring two good photo IDs.
2. Go to the Biometrics section. Display your reference number.
3. Submit your photo, fingerprint, and digital signature.
4. The NBI personnel will display your information on a computer screen. Scrutinize all of the information to ensure that everything is proper.
5. Go to the Printing or Releasing section. Wait for your NBI Clearance to be printed and distributed.
Make careful to stick to your schedule. If you fail to arrive for your NBI Clearance appointment, you must repeat the entire process.
If you have no hits, your NBI Clearance will be provided after capturing your biometrics. If you get a hit, your application will be routed through record-checking. In this instance, your NBI Clearance will be issued within ten working days.
FAQs about Renewing NBI Clearance
While the NBI renewal process is simple, you may still have some queries. To find out more, read the following.
1. Are walk-in applications for NBI Clearance renewal in 2023 permitted?
No, walk-in applications, whether for the first time or not, are not accepted. Only candidates who have an online appointment will be able to proceed with their clearance processing at the NBI branch.
Anyone who renews with the NBI must first schedule an online appointment and then pay the NBI Clearance cost. Only once you have completed these two stages can you go to your preferred renewal center for processing.
If you do not have internet access, you can register, arrange an appointment, and pay online for free at the NBI main office on Taft Avenue in Manila or any regional office with computers. After that, you can proceed with your NBI Clearance renewal.
2. How much does it cost to renew your NBI?
The NBI Clearance Quick Renewal charge is 330 (130 processing fee + 200 express delivery fee), plus an e-payment service fee of $25, for a total of 355. Depending on your location, the express shipping charge may be more. If you renew your NBI using the standard process, the total cost is 155 (130 processing fee + 25 system fee for the e-payment service).
3. How do I pay my NBI renewal fee?
You can pay the charge in person at any of the following NBI Clearance payment locations:
• Over-the-counter banking – BPI, Metrobank, UnionBank, RCBC, etc.
• Online banking services such as BPI Online, Metrobank Online, UnionBank Online, etc.
• Cash payment at any Bayad store or partner (for example, LBC, Cebuana Lhuillier, Palawan Pawnshop, Savemore, and so on).
• RD Pawnshop, San Mig Food Avenue, Petron, and other ECPay partners
• Any 7-Eleven branch
• Credit/Debit card – Visa or Mastercard
• GCash
• Maya
• ShopeePay
• DragonPay app
4. Can I renew my NBI with a Barangay Clearance?
Barangay Clearance and non-government-issued IDs, such as corporation IDs, are not accepted by the NBI. Only legitimate government-issued IDs (SSS, PhilHealth, BIR, PRC, LTO, etc.) are necessary for renewal processing.
5. How do I get my NBI ID number?
If you still have your old NBI Clearance, you may find your NBI ID number in the upper left corner, above your family name.
6. I misplaced my NBI clearance. How do I renew my NBI Clearance if I don’t have my prior NBI number?
Unfortunately, the NBI ID number, which can be located on the lost document, is still required. So, how do you renew a lapsed NBI clearance? You simply cannot. Instead, you will have to repeat the NBI Clearance application process.
7. The system reports that my NBI ID number cannot be found. How should I proceed?
You may have mistyped in your NBI ID number. Please type the number again and compare it to the number on your prior NBI Clearance.
If it doesn’t work, you won’t be able to renew your license. Instead, you’ll need to create a new account to submit a new application.
8. The system reports “Invalid Information.” How should I proceed?
If you get that warning, it signifies that one of your submitted details is incorrect. Entering your husband’s surname as your surname on the NBI online form, for example, will result in “Invalid Information.” In that scenario, enter your family name (as shown on your NBI Clearance), which was your surname when you were single.
9. How do I verify the status of my NBI renewal?
Call the hotline at 8524-1277 or 8523-8231, local 5509, to see if your NBI Clearance is ready for pick-up.
10. How can OFWs renew their NBI Clearance from outside the country?
Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are unable to travel to the Philippines but need to renew their clearance can do so by following the steps below:
Step 1: Complete the prerequisites
The following are the NBI renewal requirements for Filipinos living in other countries:
• Old NBI Clearance (If you still have your original NBI Clearance from 2014, you do not need to submit the NBI Form No. 5 or fingerprint form).
• A photocopy of the data page of your passport
• one recent 2×2 photograph (must show your front face and be on a white background; you must also remove your spectacles and not smile)
• Letter of authorization (if applying through a representative)
• A $200 application fee, which includes the courier price (if applying without a representation).
Step 2: Completing the Renewal Application
Make an online appointment and pay the needed costs through the NBI Clearance Online Registration and Application Services website.
Please send all of the requirements specified above to your authorized representative so they can process it. It should be noted that only the main NBI office in Ermita, Manila, accepts renewal applications from outside the country. If you do not have a representative, mail the criteria to the NBI office address[2] listed below. You are not required to include your authorization letter.

If your previous clearance was given after 2014, you do not need to schedule an NBI renewal appointment online. Your representative can proceed directly to the NBI’s headquarters.
Step 3: Wait for Your New Clearance
The NBI will send the renewal clearance to your overseas address. This document may take up to two months to arrive. However, depending on where you are in the world, this shipping timeframe is subject to change.
