“The Paper Works“
Wedding Licenses
These are legal requirements for getting married. A great portion of your time shall be spent to process this document.
Mararamdaman mo na yung feeling na – “Welcome to the world of adults and responsibilities. Although, you admit that you’re of legal age already. Applying for wedding licenses makes you realize it more. It’s important for you to understand that these are legal documents. “
So ano nga ba ang wedding license? Ano naman ang wedding certificate? Pareho lang ba sila? The answer is NO. This is the most common confusion when it comes to these documents. People tend to think that these 2 are the same papers.
Now, let’s differentiate them: Marriage License and Marriage Certificate
Marriage/wedding license
A document allowing two parties to get married. Without a valid license your marriage will not be allowed to take place. This is among the essentials that should not be forgotten during your preparations. You can secure it from any Notary Public months before you walk down the aisle. The said document has a validity of 120 days prior to your big day. To know more about it, read ART. 2 & 20 of the Family Code of the Philippines. Provided that it’s still valid, this may be used in any part of the country.
Remember: While filing a marriage license the personal presence of both parties are required.
Marriage Certificate
On the other hand, a marriage certificate declares that a marriage happened between 2 individuals. It’s a proof of a social union or contract of two parties. It contains information such as the date of marriage, where the marriage took place and the name of the couple, with their signature and their witnesses in attendance.
Remember: A marriage certificate is available upon your request.
