TSOK 10th Anniversary Special: Ms. Ailyn Cantere Pelayo's Message of Resilience and Gratitude

The Teachers Specialists Organization in Kuwait (TSOK) is celebrating its 10th anniversary, a time for reflection and celebration. TSOK was established to support, empower, and foster a sense of community among educators. Ailyn Cantere Pelayo is one such educator whose journey embodies the spirit of resilience and dedication to education that TSOK fosters, making it a beacon of hope for many.

Ailyn Cantere Pelayo: From OFW Success to Passionate Educator

Ms. Ailyn Cantere Pelayo’s transformation from a thriving Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) to a devoted educator in the Philippines is an inspiring example for those considering a similar career shift. Her story highlights the importance of unwavering commitment to education, the role of a supportive community, and the life-changing impact of teachers who are fully dedicated to their vocation.

Bridging Worlds: TSOK’s Support and Government Initiatives

The transition from an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) to an educator was significantly facilitated by the Sa Pinas Ikaw ang Maám at Sir (SPIMS) program, a government initiative to integrate OFW educators into the Philippine educational system. This program not only streamlined Ailyn’s re-entry into the teaching profession but also underscored the government’s recognition of the invaluable contribution of returning educators.

A Beacon of Support: TSOK’s Impact on Educators

Facing the initial challenges of adapting to a new educational environment and engaging a diverse student body, Ailyn found her stride, drawing immense satisfaction from the moments of connection and understanding with her students. The professional and personal rewards of teaching reaffirmed her decision to pursue this path.

Bridging Worlds with TSOK’s Support

Hi TSOK Family! I am Ailyn Cantere Pelayo, a former member of TSOK – Teachers Specialists Organization in Kuwait. A brief background of Amoran Elementary School – it is an IP (Indigenous People) School situated in a mountainous area of [Lim], Zamboanga, Sibugay. Fourteen kilometers away from town proper but it is accessible by road. We have two classrooms for Grade 1 and 2, and 5 and 6 – while, I was having classes with my Grade 3 and Grade 4 students, in one of our makeshift classrooms which is the stage.

The Challenges in Pursuit to Education

Usually, students are coming to school on foot. Some would arrive barefooted, especially on rainy seasons. Some can’t even make it to school because of slippery terrain, since houses are usually stood on mountain slopes. Some are in far-flung areas. It is hard for us, both teachers and students. There is a lot of adjustments that we have to make. For us teachers – we need to wake up early because the school is far away from downtown. And for students also, because they have to walk long to be able to reach the flag ceremony. In my part, I am struggling a bit with the new educational system we have now, mainly because we have a lack of teaching materials – even books are limited.

Ms. Pelayo’s Message of Gratitude to TSOK

So, I am very thankful to TSOK because they have remembered me and chose me as a beneficiary on your founding anniversary. Your help is very much appreciated because this will help a lot, especially in their visual learning, something that will give them the drive to continue their studies despite the hardships that they are experiencing and to experience ahead. Again, thank you very much and looking forward on your endeavor and helping to those under privileged schools.

God Bless you all!
