Pink is the new black!
Have you ever encountered the adage “On Wednesdays, we wear pink”? If this rings no bells, you might be missing out on a cult classic of the early 2000s, “Mean Girls,” a quintessential coming-of-age film from the illustrious year 2004. This phrase, though iconic, has evolved and taken on a new form – “On October, We Wear Pink.” This updated slogan is not merely a casual fashion statement but a poignant symbol of the global movement to raise awareness about Breast Cancer during October.
The world unites in the celebration of this ‘pink party,’ a vibrant and compassionate campaign that acknowledges the strength of survivors, commemorates the lives of those who succumbed to cancer, and passionately advocates for continued advancements in the fight against breast cancer. The color pink is no longer merely a shade; it has become a symbol of courage, a beacon of support for those affected by the disease, and a symbol of unwavering hope for a definitive cure, as per the reports.
It’s important to highlight the significant contribution of the Filipino community to this global initiative. In the face of the complexity of the political landscape where the color pink bore different connotations due to the previous election, Filipinos, particularly Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) residing in Kuwait, set aside their differences and proudly embraced the color pink in October of 2022. Their support was not limited to merely donning pink attire; they went further by sharing pictures of themselves adorned in pink on various social media platforms.
Moreover, The AIM 101 Broadcast, an online radio station with affiliations in AIM Global Kuwait, orchestrated a heartfelt charity event to raise awareness about breast cancer. On October 21, 2022, the Pink Party – Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Event 2022 was hosted at the Salmiya Indian Model School Block 12. This event comprised a multitude of elements aimed at creating a holistic awareness campaign. It included messages from eminent personalities, touching interviews with courageous Breast Cancer Survivors, captivating entertainment performances, and presentations featuring the candidates for Bb: Kuwait 2022, and an array of engaging activities for all the participants.
In a world characterized by diversity and divisions, it’s heartwarming to witness a harmonious display of unity and support, transcending political undertones and cultural barriers, all for the noble cause of battling breast cancer and fostering hope for a brighter, healthier future.
“Whether you’re a mother or father, or a husband or a son, or a niece or nephew or uncle, breast cancer doesn’t discriminate.”
