1. Introduction to Reverend Dr. Miller B. Tadeo and Paraiso United Methodist Church
Reverend Dr. Miller B. Tadeo is a prominent administrative pastor at Paraiso United Methodist Church (UMC), where he plays a pivotal role in guiding the church’s mission and activities. Within the community of Paraiso UMC, he is known for introducing the church as a beacon of spiritual purpose. Under his leadership, the congregation has been inspired and motivated to engage in a wide array of ministries, with the ultimate aspiration of establishing Paraiso UMC as a central hub of Methodism within the vibrant city of Tarlac. Many parishioners affectionately refer to Paraiso UMC as the “Newly Empowered Heartwarming Church,” highlighting the church’s commitment to renewal and its warm, welcoming atmosphere.
2. Pastor Miller’s Spiritual Journey
A profound desire for a meaningful and peaceful life drove Pastor Miller’s journey into the ministry. He firmly believed that true fulfillment could only be achieved by surrendering his life to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Like any individual, he also aspired to attain success and financial freedom. Through tireless effort and determination, he successfully built a small business empire, which afforded him luxury and comfort.
However, this idyllic phase of his life was short-lived, as he soon encountered a series of unfortunate setbacks and challenges. It was during these trying times that Pastor Miller felt a profound calling to join the ministry. He found himself at a seminary, where he underwent a transformative spiritual journey, recognizing that he was being called to participate in God’s mission to the world.
Despite this divine calling, there were moments when his faith was tested. He grappled with doubts, sometimes thinking that his involvement in the ministry was more about self-preservation than divine calling. Nevertheless, he realized his true motivation was rooted in Jesus Christ’s will. In the early years of his ministry, he even contemplated leaving the church to form his Christian congregation. However, he ultimately chose to remain dedicated to the United Methodists, serving the community and advancing their mission.
3. Pastor Miller’s Role in the Church
As a pastor, his role extends beyond the church walls. He leads the congregation in their mission to make disciples for Jesus Christ, thereby contributing to the transformation of the world. When disputes or misunderstandings arise within the community, Pastor Miller and the church rely on counseling to resolve them. His unwavering trust in the congregation’s capacity for forgiveness makes these resolutions more achievable.
4. Community Involvement Beyond the Church
Pastor Miller’s commitment to his community goes beyond his role within the church. He has had the privilege of ministering to various government agencies, including the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). In recognition of his dedication, he was appointed as the Provincial Director of Tarlac by Pearl International Auxiliary Chaplains Values Educators Inc. He also serves as the Community Adviser for Barangays San Miguel and Maligaya in Tarlac City.
Despite the multitude of responsibilities that come with his roles, Pastor Miller diligently manages his schedule to ensure he fulfills all his obligations. He views his involvement in the church, including ministering to individuals of all age groups within the congregation, as a true privilege. His gratitude extends to being entrusted with the leadership of mission congregations, which has expanded his horizons and deepened his sense of calling.
5. Gift-Giving Tradition Among United Methodists
When asked about the gift-giving tradition among United Methodists, Pastor Miller emphasized its significance in fostering closer relationships and promoting love among people. This tradition aligns with the teachings of Jesus Christ, encouraging generosity and a loving spirit towards others. Gift-giving plays a vital role in the lives of United Methodists, inspiring the congregation to emulate Jesus Christ’s love for the church and to lead abundant, purposeful lives.
6. Celebrating Seasons and Events in the United Methodist Tradition
Furthermore, Pastor Miller highlighted the importance of celebrating various seasons and events within the United Methodist tradition. Paraiso UMC observes annual occasions such as the Advent season, Lenten season, and church anniversaries. The church community regularly gathers for worship every Sunday and conducts weekly activities, including home Bible studies and dawn prayer gatherings. Small group ministries, known as the Covenant Discipleship Group, also meet weekly to nurture spiritual growth. During the latter months of the year, especially in November, the congregation celebrates the Advent season. In December, they prepare for Simbang Gabi and the Christmas service, further solidifying their bonds as a close-knit and spiritually vibrant community.
