The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is home to more than 700,000 Filipinos scattered in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
Filipinos in the UAE are mostly Overseas Filipino Workers that are employed in a wide spectrum of profession; engineering, architecture ,cargo shipping, construction, energy, information technology, marketing, medical, real estate, retail, telecommunications, household service work and tourism.
The Global financial crisis of 2008–2009 has badly affected the Filipino work force in the United Arab Emirates UAE with over 20,000 Filipinos getting laid off. New passport and visa requirements could not be met by many OFWs so they were left stranded on Kish Island, Iran and Al Buraimi, Oman near the border with UAE.
In recent years, a progressive increase in jobs secured Filipinos for work and living in the UAE.
