Ana Lou Gabuya, a triumphant TSOK (Teachers Specialists Organization in Kuwait) board passer, shares her journey of preparing for and conquering the SPLE.

Here’s an up close and personal interview with Ana Lou Gabuya:

How do you feel about receiving the news that you passed the board exam?

Ana Lou Gabuya expressed feeling shocked and overwhelmed upon learning about her success in the board exam.

Have you received such recognition before? Please give details.

She clarified that she had not received such recognition before.

What is your job here in Kuwait? How long have you been OFW?

Currently employed as a Household worker in Kuwait, she has been an OFW for 19 months.

Who do you attribute your success to?

She attributes her success to her children and loved ones who served as her inspiration.

Who has inspired you to take up SPLE?

Motivated by her children, she decided to pursue the exam.

What were the reactions of your family to this board’s passing?

The reactions of her family to her passing the board exam were filled with happiness.

To what extent was TSOK helpful in your success story?

She credited the President of TSOK for being highly helpful and always reaching out to provide support.

What is your plan for the future or your dream after passing this exam?

Her future plans include working in a government agency in the Philippines, preferably in DepEd.

Is this your first licensure exam? Do you plan on taking other exams, and what would it be?

This was her first licensure exam, and she remains open to taking additional exams if the opportunity arises.

What message would you like to give to the upcoming board exam taker?

My message for them is to pray and ask for His guidance, study and focus on their fields, and have presence of mind during the examination.

How did you know about the SPLE?

She discovered the exam through a friend who had passed the LET the previous year.

When did you decide to apply: after graduation or after finding a job? Why?

She decided to apply for the exam while already working in Kuwait.

What did you expect from the SPLE regarding the content of the exam? How different is it from college entrance exams?

She expected the exam to be significantly different, emphasizing the need for careful handling of answer sheets to prevent dirt and avoid erasures.

What questions were easy to answer (e.g., solving, logical reasoning, abstract reasoning)?

Logical reasoning questions were the easiest for her to answer.

Did you attend a review center? Which review center? (a.) If yes, how did it affect your preparation for the SPLE? (b.) If not, how did you prepare for the exam in terms of resources and review materials?  

She did not attend a review center but utilized YouTube to watch lectures by Sir Melvin and received learning materials from a friend in the Philippines.

How many of the things you reviewed appeared in the exam?

Many of the topics from Sir Melvin’s lecture appeared in the exam.

How many weeks or months did you prepare for the exam?

She prepared for the exam for one and a half months.

How much did preparing for the exam cost you? Is it worth it?

The preparation for the exam was costly, but She believes it was entirely worth it.

Do you have a daily study routine? (a.) If yes, what is your daily routine, especially the specific time you study? (b.) If not, how did you manage your time, especially for reviewing?  

She followed a daily study routine, utilizing vacant moments to watch YouTube lectures.

How did you balance your work and review? How did you manage your time?

Balancing work and review involved studying during vacant times and dedicating full days off to intense preparation.

How did the SPLE affect your time with family and work?

The exam affected her calling moments with her children, as she utilized that time for studying.

Did you have any strategies in studying for the exam that helped you understand your notes better?

Her strategy for studying involved reading, understanding, comprehending, and maintaining focus.

What difficulties did you face in preparing for the exam? How did you better remember complex terms and lessons? Did you improve your memory in any way?

She faced difficulties but relied on her good memory and continued studying even in the last minutes before the exam.

How stressed were you in preparing for the exam? How did you manage your stress?

Despite stress during Ramadan, she managed by reviewing during work breaks and motivating herself through prayer and leaving her fate to God.

Have you procrastinated on your review? How did you manage procrastination? How did you motivate yourself?

She admitted to procrastinating but managed it by working on her studies gradually and maintaining faith in the process.

How important is preparing for the SPLE (or other exams)? Can you say that you are well prepared? How so?

She considers herself unprepared but entrusts her fate to the Lord.

How did you act during the exam? What were your thoughts during the exam?

During the exam, she was a bit nervous as a first-timer but found calmness through continuous prayer.

Where did you gain the strength that helped you pass the exam?

She drew strength from God and her children, emphasizing the challenges of being a single mom and the necessity to build a better future for her kids.

Did you search for and use guides and tips in your preparation? How effective were they?

She did not actively search for guides and tips, opting for a normal study routine.

How did passing the exam benefit you in terms of your work, your life, your family, and yourself?

Passing the exam has given me more confidence to face a new chapter of my life. It has built a stronger inner personality, making me believe that I can do better and secure a better job than my current one.
