The Ministry of Interior made the necessary steps to stipulate the work contract between employer and domestic helper, said recently by Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khalid Al-Sabah.
While the new work contract strictly specifies that domestic helper obligation is mainly to perform with utmost care, determination and hard work their designated tasks to their employer, there are also conditions that should be met by the employer.
Minimum wage should be more than KD 40 to be paid every end of the month, free shelter and food. Working hours should not exceed 8 hours and passport of domestic helper must not be withheld. The employer must give day off to the domestic helper and annual paid leave. Communication with the families of the domestic helper must not be restricted.
Both employer and domestic helper must comply with the 100 days probation period. If satisfaction is not met, the employer is allowed to return the domestic helper to the recruitment agency and is entitled to reimburse the cost incurred. The domestic helper can also be assigned to a new employer.
As Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWS), no matter what our job description is, we should do our assigned tasks diligently, be respectful of our employer and in return, they should treat us very well.
Peace and love to you.
